Fed: Arab perceptions of Australia in balance: Jordan

Jordan's Planning Minister BASSEM AWADALLAH says Arab perceptions of Australia's rolein the Iraq war will depend on the outcome of the conflict.

Mr AWADALLAH says Jordan is friendly with Australia and hopes relations will be enhanced.

But he's told ABC television how Australia will be perceived by the Arab world dependson the war's outcome.

Mr AWADALLAH says the war could be seen to be bringing stability or instability.

He says it's difficult to think of any good coming from any war anywhere, but especiallyin the Middle East.

Mr AWADALLAH says the key to Middle East stability is resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He also says there would be tragic consequences if the war went beyond Iraq, to Iran or Syria.

Mr AWADALLAH says the Arab-Israeli conflict has been festering for a long time andshould be dealt with responsibly and immediately.

Mr AWADALLAH says American policy is unpopular on the Arab and Jordanian streets becauseit's seen to be one-sided over Israel.
