St. THOMAS - Purchasing materials for some construction projectson the western end of St. Thomas will soon require less travel.
Heavy Materials Inc. will soon open a new sales yard in Krum Bayto provide the western end of St. Thomas with washed crushed stone,washed sand, plastering sand, masonry block and cement.
"We will have fully a fully functional truck scale, office andfork lift to load pallets," said Doug Gurlea, president of HeavyMaterials.
Gurlea said the new sales yard is located on the site of theformer Devcon International sales yard, which was closed after beingdevastated by Hurricane Marilyn.
"We're listening to our customers who have projects on thewestern end of the island," Gurlea said. "It's hard to fight trafficthrough town to our site on Brookman Road."
The new sales yard is located in Krum Bay south of St. ThomasGas. Gurlea said construction on the site is nearly complete.
The yard is about 1[1/2] acres in size.
"We just want to make sure our customers can get the product ashassel-free as possible," Gurlea said.
