Qld: Caltex maintenance workers plan march

Striking Caltex refinery maintenance workers plan to march through Brisbane's CBD todayafter deciding to stay off the job for another week.

The 80 workers began their strike on April 9 after negotiations over a new enterprisebargaining agreement broke down.

The members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union are employed by sub-contractingmaintenance companies.

AMWU Queensland secretary DAVID HARRISON says the strikers want pay rates comparableto those paid at other refineries.

He says workers also want benefits such as income protection insurance and redundancy pay.

He says Caltex is interfering in the negotiations and is continuing to frustrate attemptsby the sub-contractors to negotiate properly with the union.

The strikers are to rally at King Gorge Square at 8.30am AEST today before marchingto the offices of one of the major sub contractors, Transfield Services, in George Street.
